# About

## About this site

I've always written a lot *to myself*. I create plans and keep notes, and I log what I'm doing, how
I'm doing it, and why. This helps me achieve clarity in my day-to-day.

I created this site to start writing *to you* in a more structured way. Our collective intelligence
has helped me a lot. Now I humbly hope to contribute more to it.

There are many topics that I find important and that I feel are not discussed enough or with enough
clarity. I want to approach them *pragmatically*, building a body of work that explains why they
matter and, where appropriate, offers *actionable* guidance. To do this, I'll be keeping these main
objectives in mind:

- Make some sense of the crazy times we are living in, as the world gets more complex and noisy.
  - What do we know about how we got here and where we are going? More importantly, what **don't**
    we know?
- Discuss what a "good life" would look like in this context.
  - What should we be aiming for?
- Discuss how to actually build and live such a life.
  - Which rules, tools, and routines can help us?

In other words, the *core questions*: Where are we at? Where should we be going? How do we get
there?

Of course, this is saying a lot without saying much. It is hard to think of a topic that wouldn't
fit into this frame. Well, I'm especially interested in software engineering, how to use technology
the *right* way, finance, markets, self-sovereignty, and applied history. This gives you some idea
of the colors I'll be painting with.

I know how ambitious it is to seek answers to these questions. Still, I deeply believe we should all
pursue them, fully aware from the start that the search has no end.

By confronting these questions, we refine the model of our own reality and, in turn, our ability to
shape it. This allows us to improve our lives and the lives of those around us.

And this process, this *journey*, is the destination (very cliché but very true). I believe that we
find true fulfillment **in** it.

The final form this site will take is far from clear to me. My initial idea is to write about
whatever feels right at the moment, creating pieces that stand on their own feet. Hopefully, over
time, they will fit together well enough to resemble a tapestry that makes sense to you.

## About me

My name is Rafael F. Lemos (`flemosr`). I'm a Christian and happily married. I've been working as a
software engineer since 2019 and live in Brazil.

I think that free and open technologies, and the culture around them, are **crucial** and getting
more important by the day. I also believe that we should all humbly ask hard questions and dig
deeply for answers, without blindly treating the opinions of others as fact.
